"Position-Quantity"
- System of "Position-Quantity-Number"
For a start, let us briefly understand the concept of "position-quantity" by the following picture :
- Explanation
- Representation of a position P :
- Let a position O be fixed as the "origin".
- Show the distance of P from O.
- The distance of two positions is showed by a quantity.
- Representation of a quantity q :
- Let a quantity u be fixed as the "unit".
- Show the ratio of q to u.
- The ratio of two quantities is showed by a number.
- Case of the above diagram :
- The distance of P from O is q.
- The ratio of q to u is nB
- Example
- Take the "average sea level" as the origin O.
- Take m (meter) as the unit u.
- Then, if n = -150,
The position of P is represented as "-150m above sea level" ("150m under sea level").
